June 28, 2003Hector Saldana of San Antonio Express-News has filed an early-afternoon report from the inaugural date of Ozzfest 2003, which kicked off this morning at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Selma, Texas. "By noon, nearly 7,000 fans had arrived, said a Verizon spokesperson," he writes. "But thousands had been there since the gates opened at 9 a.m. . . Osbourne's hit MTV reality series has turned Ozzfest into a family-friendly event. Weekend headbangers now walk among the hardcore tattooed and pierced black T-shirt masses . . . Some morning visitors took in Sony's PlayStation2 exhibit inside an air-conditioned semi-trailer. Hundreds filed inside to play 31 big-screen interactive console games with such titles as 'Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness', 'Devil May Cry 2' and 'Downhill Domination' . . . For $5, visitors could get a peek at KORN's Jonathan Davis' macabre art collection that includes paintings by mass murders like Wayne Gacey.
